Multi-disciplinary artist, Betsy Lahaussois, is a fiber (fibre) artist currently focused on piecing, quilting, and fabric collage. Her exhibition reflects the playfulness and improvisation of her abstract and organic style. Her favored raw materials are scavenged, repurposed, or gifted textiles, which she then enhances with painting and slow stitching.
Betsy Lahaussois, artista multidisciplinare, è un’artista della fibra (fiber) attualmente concentrata sul piecing, sul quilting e sul collage di tessuti. La sua mostra “197 daydreams” riflette la giocosità e l’improvvisazione del suo stile astratto e organico. Le sue materie prime preferite sono tessuti di recupero, riutilizzati o regalati, che poi arricchisce con la pittura e la cucitura lenta.

In November, ArtEX was privileged to be asked by the Australian Embassy in Rome, to curate and manage a pavilion at Roma Arte In Nuvola, the most important annual International Art Fair in Italy. Each year, the fair selects a “Guest Country” for a stand-alone exhibition that highlights the art of that country. This year, Australia was featured, and ArtEX created a professional presentation of selected artworks created by indigenous people of Australia. The exhibit ‘Threads and Lands’ celebrates the immersive power of contemporary Indigenous Australian art to evoke narratives of ancestry, identity, and connections to Country that are unique to the world’s oldest living culture. More than 36,000 visitors came through the fair over a period of 4 days. We couldn’t be more honoured to have been a part of this distinguished event.
A novembre, ArtEX ha avuto il privilegio di ricevere dall’Ambasciata australiana a Roma la richiesta di curare e gestire un padiglione a Roma Arte In Nuvola, la più importante fiera internazionale d’arte in Italia. Ogni anno, la fiera seleziona un “Paese ospite” per una mostra a sé stante che mette in risalto l’arte di quel Paese. Quest’anno è stata scelta l’Australia e ArtEX ha creato una presentazione professionale di opere d’arte selezionate create dalle popolazioni indigene dell’Australia. La mostra “Threads and Lands” (Fili e terre) celebra il potere coinvolgente dell’arte indigena australiana contemporanea nell’evocare narrazioni di ascendenza, identità e connessioni con il Paese che sono uniche della cultura vivente più antica del mondo. Più di 36.000 visitatori hanno visitato la fiera per 4 giorni. Non potremmo essere più onorati di aver partecipato a questo importante evento.

Juli’s exhibit included early works of marquetry created when she lived in Hawaii, to a mix of wood and painted works, to large scale paintings that reference climate change.
La mostra di Juli comprendeva i primi lavori di intarsio creati quando viveva alle Hawaii, un mix di opere in legno e dipinte, fino a dipinti di grandi dimensioni che fanno riferimento ai cambiamenti climatici.

These large ‘excursions into nature’ pieces evoked the centuries-old practice of close-up examination of what has been thought of as familiar territory, resulting in very dense and almost abstract renderings.
Queste grandi “escursioni nella natura” evocano la pratica secolare dell’esame ravvicinato di ciò che si pensa sia un territorio familiare, dando luogo a rappresentazioni molto dense e quasi astratte.

ArtEx is pleased to present Season 2023 SUPERNATURA in Todi, Umbria. This diverse exhibition program featuring artists Christopher Winter, Virginia Ryan and Ugo Levita explores the supernatural through a dynamic range of mediums and perspectives including painting, sculpture and installation. The selected works invite viewers to consider what constitutes our experience of reality, and the speculative worlds beyond.
ArtEx è lieta di presentare la Stagione 2023 SUPERNATURA a Todi, in Umbria. Questo programma espositivo diversificato, che vede la partecipazione degli artisti Christopher Winter, Virginia Ryan e Ugo Levita, esplora il soprannaturale attraverso una gamma dinamica di mezzi e prospettive, tra cui pittura, scultura e installazione. Le opere selezionate invitano gli spettatori a considerare ciò che costituisce la nostra esperienza della realtà e i mondi speculativi al di là di essa.
In his first solo show in Italy with the same title – Supernatura – British figurative artist Christopher Winter presents the supernatural through painted parallel worlds: a Hollywood-esque vision of ghosts, fables and fantastical folklore that arouses both our rational and irrational fears. Through a stylistically playful lens, Winter draws on supernatural archetypes that reflect the idea of the ‘other’; the unfamiliar, the strange, the world beyond our human reality.
Nella sua prima mostra personale in Italia dal titolo omonimo – Supernatura – l’artista figurativo britannico Christopher Winter presenta il soprannaturale attraverso mondi paralleli dipinti: una visione hollywoodiana di fantasmi, favole e folklore fantastico che suscita le nostre paure sia razionali che irrazionali. Attraverso una lente stilisticamente giocosa, Winter attinge ad archetipi soprannaturali che riflettono l’idea dell’”altro”; il non familiare, lo strano, il mondo al di là della nostra realtà umana.
Australian multidisciplinary artist Virginia Ryan presents an immersive showcase of wall installations and works on paper in her solo exhibition Gatherings. The presence of the supernatural is observed in Ryan’s work on many levels, but particularly through process, materials and conceptual narratives. It emerges, often inadvertently, through the Trevi-based artist’s explorations of ritualism, nature and collective memory, framed through an intuitive, multicultural lens.
L’artista multidisciplinare australiana Virginia Ryan presenta una vetrina immersiva di installazioni a parete e opere su carta nella sua mostra personale Gatherings. La presenza del soprannaturale è osservata nel lavoro della Ryan a molti livelli, ma in particolare attraverso il processo, i materiali e le narrazioni concettuali. Emerge, spesso inavvertitamente, attraverso le esplorazioni dell’artista di Trevi sul ritualismo, la natura e la memoria collettiva, inquadrati da una lente intuitiva e multiculturale.
A celebrated name throughout Umbria’s artistic community, Todi-based artist Ugo Levita presents his mesmerising explorations into the poetry of dreams in his exhibition My Soul is a Butterfly’s Dream (La mia anima è il sogno di una farfalla). Levita’s paintings draw on a broad range of references from culture, history, philosophy, theatre and beyond, creating a portal to worlds beyond our conscious existence in which time and ‘reality’ do not exist.
Nome celebre in tutta la comunità artistica umbra, l’artista di Todi Ugo Levita presenta le sue ipnotiche esplorazioni nella poesia dei sogni nella mostra La mia anima è il sogno di una farfalla. I dipinti di Levita attingono a un’ampia gamma di riferimenti dalla cultura, dalla storia, dalla filosofia, dal teatro e non solo, creando un portale verso mondi al di là della nostra esistenza cosciente in cui il tempo e la “realtà” non esistono.

The exhibition is a journey through landscape and nature and the inherent profoundness, quirkiness, characters, as well as the emotion and celebration of all that inspires.
This exhibition has become an annual event and with the ambition to encourage established and emerging artists and sculptors from across Australia and further afield to display their works and engage with other artists and a diverse, interested community. This event provides a unique opportunity to exhibit work in a renowned garden, surrounded by extensive farm and bushland along the Goulburn River in central Victoria.

The APY Art Collective is one of the most important groups of Aboriginal Artists in Australia, with work being held in major collections globally. The Italian premiere of their works will be held in Todi in August and September featuring several of their recognised and emerging Artists.
