I code. I don’t do design.
Had an 'interesting' day today, perhaps in part caused by confusion about the difference.
Some people don't clearly distinguish between the graphics / colours of a web site and the functionality.
I do the functionality. When an email gets sent, or your credit card gets billed, or when information you typed into a browser goes anywhere and later comes back somewhere else, that's my thing. I'm an engineer, or a plumber or perhaps on a good day, an architect.
The cute photo, the pleasing colour scheme and the-button-that-shouldn't-be-a-graphic-it-should-look-like-a-real- button-depending-on-the-OS-of-the-viewer was done by a designer. They're artists who have found the best way to get paid is by compromising and doing their expression in a computer instead of for real.
Artist. Engineer. Complimentary, but very Different.
So when I put up an example of my work, don't think that the amazing first impression you receive is anything to do with me. My stuff is often hidden behind a login screen, and you'll only really notice it when something goes wrong and your credit card gets billed twice instead of once.
I will try to remember to say who did the design but if I forget, consider this the site-wide disclaimer.
